NDA Law’s Managing Director Andrea Michaels announced today she will step back from her role with the firm she established in 2015 to concentrate on her political career.

Ms Michaels has been working on succession planning for the firm since entering Parliament in February 2019.

Litigation specialist Joshua Davies will take up the position as new Managing Director and NDA Law will merge with Mr Davies’ firm Joshua Davies Legal in coming months. Ms Michaels will remain an owner of the firm and will spend transition time with clients before stepping back to work in an advisory role on the firm’s board.

Ms Michaels has more than 20 years’ experience in South Australia, working as a partner at one of Adelaide’s leading law firms before establishing NDA Law in 2015. The firm has since become one of South Australia’s most renowned commercial law firms, winning multiple national awards including most recently two Awards for Excellence in the 2020 Australasian Law Awards for Best State/Regional Law Firm and Best Boutique Law Firm.

“I am passionate about building strong businesses in South Australia and mentoring women to step up to senior leadership positions. What we have achieved at NDA Law exceeded all my expectations, and I thank all our clients for the strong partnerships we have established over the years.

“While I am reluctant to move away from my role at NDA Law, playing a more prominent role in politics has been my objective. I want to use my commercial knowledge and experience in the wider business environment to help strengthen our state and to contribute to better decision-making in a way that can reflect all voices in our community. I am excited to hand the NDA Law baton over to Mr Davies whose expertise will be a great asset to the firm.”

Joshua Davies is an expert in civil litigation, having recently won APAC Insiders Award for Best Civil Litigation Firm-Australia and received an Award for Distinction in Building & Construction Law.

“I am excited to be involved in leading the next stage of NDA Law’s growth,” Mr Davies said.

“Joshua Davies Legal is a well-established practice and will complement NDA Law’s existing strength areas in tax, estate planning, employment and commercial law by bringing additional knowledge in building and construction, civil litigation and banking and finance to the mix.

“Our merger will bring new offerings to clients by sharing core areas of expertise, as well as potential for an increase in the scale of our activities in the future.”
